Pat was a standout student, but her best memories of High School were of having fun with her friends. She said that her social circle might not have existed if it had not been for her cousin Don Newman. Don was a few years older, and one summer when Pat was about fourteen, Don came to stay at the ranch for the summer. He instigated parties and a hayride with Pat's classmates, and their social life took off from there.
